FOH Manager (EL MATADOR, 196 Cuba Street)
El Matador serves the bold, fresh flavours of Latin American cuisine, with wine, cocktails and beer to match. We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, full-time, hands-on manager to assist with leading our awesome team, and to help ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our busy restaurant and bar (which is open 7 days a week from 5pm and closed only on public holidays).
Front-of-House Manager job responsibilities:
- Support the Restaurant Manager to plan, direct and control the organisation, administration and operation of El Matador in co-ordination with the owners and head chef, including: planning menus with chefs; planning bar/drinks menus; purchasing and managing beverage stocks, bar equipment and other FOH supplies; planning, organising and managing special events.
- Run the restaurant on the Restaurant Manager's days off.
- Assist and support the Restaurant Manager to: employ and train FOH staff; establish and maintain standards of staff performance and customer service; maintain standards required by hygiene, safety and liquor licensing regulations; lead and champion continuous improvement; handle customer complaints; plan and manage the weekly roster for all FOH staff; assist the owners to control costs.
- Perform FOH Team Member responsibilities.
Hours of work: 30-40 hours per week (30 hours minimum guaranteed), over 5 days per week (2 consecutive days off per week), as per the roster.
Location: El Matador Restaurant, 196 Cuba Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011.

Applicants must have:
- At least 2 years of relevant experience, including some supervisory/ management/ leadership experience, preferably in a licensed restaurant or similar hospitality business.
- LCQ and current Manager's Certificate are strongly preferred, however not essential (we can pay for you to get your LCQ and Manager's Certificate).
- A positive attitude, great customer service, people management and teamwork skills are all essential.
- Barista, bar tending and cocktail making skills are preferred, but not essential.
- Spanish language skills and knowledge of Latin American & Spanish cuisine would be a bonus!
