About the Role
This position plays a key part in managing the movement of gantry and hook bins throughout Palmerston North. You’ll operate the gantry truck and loader, liaise with truck drivers and operational support, and ensure customer collections are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
It’s a hands-on role that suits someone reliable, adaptable, and confident thinking on their feet.
Key Responsibilities- Operate gantry truck and loader safely for bin deliveries, collections, and relocations.
- Manage daily gantry and hook bin workflow and yard organisation.
- Liaise with truck drivers and operational support to coordinate bin rotations and same-day requirements.
- Complete accurate run sheets, weighbridge receipts, and job dockets daily.
- Maintain vehicle checks, yard safety, and compliance with procedures.
- Promptly report all incidents, near misses, and hazards to management.
- Family-friendly daytime hours — finish when the day’s work is complete.
- Weekend work may be required from time to time, particularly around peak periods.
- Additional duties may be requested when fair and reasonable.
- Flexibility is expected to support operational requirements.
- Strong customer focus with a commitment to service excellence.
- Honest, accountable, and reliable — demonstrating integrity and respect in all interactions.
- Works well both autonomously and as part of a team, supporting others to get the job done safely and efficiently.
- Confident decision-maker who can think on their feet.
- The ability to follow instructions while also using common sense.
- Comfortable operating a phone for job communication and basic reporting.
- Willingness to learn and a positive attitude toward training are extremely important.
- Minimum Class 2 Driver’s Licence (Class 4 preferred).
- WTR Endorsement preferred but not essential for the right candidate.
- Loader operating experience beneficial — full training provided.
- Prior experience in waste, transport, or similar heavy vehicle work is advantageous.
