About the Role
As a key member of our Anaesthesia team, you will play an essential role in delivering high-quality perioperative care across a range of surgical specialties. Working in a collaborative and well-respected team, you will contribute to both elective and acute services, ensuring safe and effective patient outcomes.
You will join a team of sixteen experienced and supportive SMO colleagues and one ANZCA trainee and work alongside a highly competent surgical and ICU team, all dedicated to excellence in patient care.
You will be working within a secondary care setting participating in the anaesthetic roster, covering planned care and acute theatre sessions, anaesthesia after-hours on call support, anaesthetic pre-assessment clinics and working as the duty anaesthetist.

About the Team/Service/ Location
Nelson - s Anaesthesia team is made up of experienced consultants, one registrar, and skilled anaesthetic technicians. We pride ourselves on our collegial environment, with strong interdisciplinary collaboration and a commitment to continuous learning.
Anaesthesia service provides support to other departments including Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dental, Mental Health, and the Emergency department. The service also offers anaesthesia for visiting subspecialty surgeons in Paediatric Surgery, Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastics, and Maxillofacial Surgery.

About you
The ideal applicant will:
- Bring clinical expertise to a smaller provincial hospital and contribute to care to the patients in Nelson region.
- Be eligible for an Annual Practicing Certificate with a vocational scope of Anaesthesia with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Hold Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA), or equivalent.
- Work with others to promote a cohesive team culture of collaborative practice, openness, humour, and respect across disciplines.
