Gore - Senior Shepherd - Duncraigen Farm
The Opportunity**
Are you an experienced and independent Senior Shepherd looking to join a small, supportive farm team?
We’re seeking a passionate and skilled shepherd to take on a varied and rewarding role. Working closely with the farm manager and head shepherd, you’ll receive support to grow and develop while contributing to the daily operations of a complex multi stud farming operation.
Key responsibilities include:- Livestock management and stock work
- Pasture management
- Tractor work
- Winter feeding
- General farm maintenance and fencing
With diverse stock classes, allowing you to refine your skills and focus on optimising production across each class. Making this an ideal role for a capable and motivated shepherd.
**The Farm**
Just fifteen minutes from Manapouri, Duncraigen Farm is an 1100 ha (effective) property with the Waiau River and Fiordland National Park on its boundaries.
Duncraigen Station operates as a stud farm, home to an Angus cattle herd and a Romney sheep flock. These provide all bulls and rams to Pamu properties across the South Island, forming the foundation of the farm's breeding system. Complementing the stud operations is a commercial breeding and finishing enterprise.
The station follows an all-grass wintering system, with no reliance on cropping; however, supplements are produced and utilised on-farm to support livestock over the colder months.
**About You**
Bring your can-do positive attitude and broad farm experience to this varied role, along with:- At least two working dogs
- Proven experience self-managing your time
- Tractor operation experience
- A current NZ drivers’ licence
