Wheelchair Assistant Why Ora Program

  • Fixed term, full time, 1.0FTE (80 hours per fortnight)

About the Role

Great opportunity for something new, this position is responsible for the repairs, maintenance and modification of wheelchairs, as requested by therapists and/or Wheelchair Technician. The role includes repairs for equipment / wheelchair funded through Enable NZ, ACC, Hospital or private customers.

Repairs, maintenance can be completed at the wheelchair department, main residence or in the community.

The Wheelchair Assistant will assist with the implementation of appropriate repair and review of wheelchairs under the guidance, support and/or supervision of a therapist or Wheelchair technician. This role covers all age groups and the Taranaki region.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Taranaki employs approximately 350 allied health professionals across its services, and we're growing our inpatient physical health rehabilitation team by 60%. You will be joining a friendly team that is diverse in skills and experience, a team that welcomes collaboration, and that values the contribution of each team member.

Our team provides rehabilitation care across acute and non-acute inpatient wards as part of Allied Health, and we're happy to support other teams to ensure their success.

About you

You will need to have:

  • Current New Zealand driver's license
  • Good time management
  • Reliable
  • Some experience in mechanics or eager to learn
  • A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Maori.
  • Computer literacy: Microsoft word, Microsoft outlook.

Desired:

  • Demonstrate ability to facilitate team working.
  • Effective communication
