If you are a social worker who values community, connection and the chance to make a meaningful difference, Hawkes Bay and Tairawhiti offer an environment where professional purpose and lifestyle come together.

At EIT - Te Aho a Maui, your practice experience is highly valued and becomes central in shaping the next generation of social workers.

This is an opportunity to bring your professional expertise into a teaching and learning environment grounded in the realities of Aotearoa. Whether you are considering a new challenge or a shift that aligns more closely with your values, this is an exciting time to join us.

About the opportunity

We have a range of academic opportunities available, including:

  • Permanent, full-time
  • Fixed-term, full-time
  • Part-time roles

Positions may be based in Hawkes Bay (Taradale), Tairawhiti or across both regions depending on programme needs.

You will contribute to the Bachelor of Social Work and/or Bachelor of Social Work (Honours), preparing graduates who are reflective, culturally grounded and ready for the complexity of Aotearoa’s social services landscape.

In these roles, you will:

  • Have the flexibility to develop programmes and/or teach and mentor
  • Teach and mentor akonga through engaging and culturally responsive approaches
  • Bring your practice knowledge into the learning environment in authentic ways
  • Collaborate with iwi, fieldwork agencies and community partners
  • Contribute to programme development and curriculum evolution
  • Support student wellbeing and academic achievement
  • Engage in research aligned with your interests and strengths

Who we are looking for?

You may be an experienced practitioner ready for a new direction, or a current educator wanting to deepen your impact.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Registration as a social worker
  • Recent practice experience
  • A tertiary qualification in social work or a related field
  • Strong communication and relationship skills
  • Ability to teach in-person and online
  • A commitment to equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally grounded practice

Teaching experience is welcomed but not essential. We provide strong mentoring and capability-building support for those new to academic roles.

Specific skills in course and programme development would be highly regarded.
