Health & Safety Lead – Transport & Operations

Waverley, Taranaki

We’re on the lookout for a practical, down-to-earth Health and Safety professional to join a hardworking local business that plays a key role in the forestry transport sector.

This is a great opportunity to step into a leadership-level role supporting the safety and wellbeing of our team across the wider Lupton Group – with a key focus on our busy transport operations. The role is based in Waverley and will also support other parts of the business as needed.

About the Role

This position suits someone who’s confident on the ground, can work closely with drivers and operators, and has a good understanding of what safe practice looks like in a hands-on environment. You’ll be key in keeping our safety systems moving forward and making sure we’re looking after our people properly.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead incident investigations and make sure actions are followed through
  • Support training and development across teams
  • Help roll out and embed new H&S procedures and policies
  • Monitor compliance and report on any gaps or risks
  • Keep policies, registers and documentation up to date
  • Manage recruitment and induction processes for new starters
  • Coordinate and lead Health & Safety meetings across the group
  • Attend external customer safety meetings as required
  • Work closely with ACC and other support providers around staff rehabilitation
What We’re Looking For:
  • A recognised qualification in Health & Safety
  • Ideally some experience in forestry, transport, or a similar hands-on industry
  • A practical mindset and a confident communicator
  • Someone who’s organised, solutions-focused, and not afraid to roll up their sleeves
  • A good sense of humour and strong team values

This is a genuine opportunity to make a difference in a locally owned and operated business, with plenty of variety and a supportive team environment.

Salary and vehicle to be negotiated based on experience.

We’d love to hear from you. Please send your CV and a brief cover letter to office@totaltransport.co.nz .
