Part-time Yard Assistant
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Yard Assistant works in with the rest of our tight-knit team to get it done. Your day will have variety - from cutting all sizes of pipe, packaging orders, loading and unloading trucks, to dispatching mesh.
Ideally, you’ll have experience working with steel or dispatching industrial products - and if you have an engineering or gas cutting background, that would be an advantage. There will be training involved, to get you up to speed with cutting pipe on the bandsaw, radial gas cutting pipe and handling steel on our 12 tonne forklift.
We are looking for someone to join our small team that doesn’t shy away from working hard, and can have a laugh while doing it.
The role is part time: Wednesday to Friday, 7:30am - 5:00pm (a 4:00pm finish on Fridays) and you’ll have flexibility to work full time to cover team leave where needed. It goes without saying, we are flexible with hours for you to attend family and important appointments.
WHAT YOU NEED- Experience working with steel products is preferable, or dispatching similar industrial products
- An engineering or gas cutting background is an advantage
- Experience operating forklifts and a forklift license is preferable
- Very good attention to detail - making sure you have the right pipe for the right order, cut to the right length
- A ‘get stuck in’ attitude - able to work unsupervised and be self motivated
- Physically fit - this is an active outdoor role where you are on your feet most of the day

We import steel products into New Zealand and purchase surplus steel from all around the country, giving our customers a range of options to suit their project.
