We are a proudly locally owned and operated cultural giftware and souvenir store based in Gisborne. We specialise in unique, meaningful products inspired by Maori and New Zealand culture – from taonga and handcrafted gifts to apparel and homeware.

Key Responsibilities:- Supervise and support the retail team in day-to-day store operations.
- Ensure high standards of customer service and product knowledge, especially with cultural items.
- Manage rosters, staff duties, and performance on the shop floor.
- Maintain clean, well-presented product displays with cultural significance in mind.
- Monitor inventory, process orders, and liaise with suppliers.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety and employment obligations.
- Train new staff on customer service, product knowledge, and store procedures.
- Operate POS and EFTPOS systems and handle daily reconciliation.

Skills and Experience Required:- Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in a retail supervisory or senior retail assistant role OR a tertiary qualification in any discipline
- Strong customer service, communication and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support a small team.
- Experience with or interest in cultural or tourism-related retail is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in POS systems and basic computer skills.
- Attention to detail in visual merchandising and store setup.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to build rapport with employees and vendors

Preferred Qualifications:- Certificate or Diploma in Retail, Business, or Tourism (Level 4+) OR a tertiary qualification in any discipline
- Familiarity with Te Ao Maori, tikanga, or cultural protocols (an advantage).
- First Aid certificate (preferred but not essential).
