The Role:As a Clinical Midwife Specialist or Clinical Nurse Specialist – Lactation Support Services, you will provide expert clinical care, leadership, and education to support optimal breastfeeding outcomes for mothers and babies receiving maternity services at Middlemore Hospital.
This advanced practice role focuses on complex lactation cases, quality improvement initiatives, and the implementation of the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI).You will work collaboratively across maternity, neonatal, and wider inpatient services, advocating for best practices in breastfeeding and ensuring continuity of care through expert consultation and support.In return for providing your clinical expertise to a culturally diverse community of whaanau, you can expect to work with a skilled team of colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:Provide advanced clinical lactation support and assessment for mothers and babies with complex needs.Lead breastfeeding education and training for midwifery, nursing, and allied health staff.Promote BFHI compliance and contribute to related audits and quality initiatives.Serve as a resource and consultant for internal and external health professionals.Develop and deliver culturally sensitive care aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.Maintain and enhance clinical practice through ongoing professional development.About You:NZ Registered Nurse or Midwife with a current Annual Practicing Certificate5+ years recent nursing or midwifery experience in an acute maternity setting in NZInternational Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) qualificationRelevant clinical lactation experience in a hospital settingPlay a vital role in improving maternal and infant health outcomes!
