Fleet Service Manager
Our client is seeking an experienced and qualified Diesel Mechanic to step into a leadership-focused Fleet Service Manager position based in Hastings.
This is a hands-on leadership role where your priority will be managing workflow, leading a skilled team, and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of a busy workshop.
While you will bring strong mechanical capability, the primary focus of the role is team leadership and operational oversight rather than being on the tools full-time.
About the Role
You will be responsible for overseeing the servicing, maintenance, and repair of a diverse fleet including:- Road vehicles
- Trucks and trailers
- Plant machinery
- Earthmoving equipment
- Forklifts
The workshop currently consists of approximately 13 staff, including one apprentice and a team of fully qualified mechanics.
You will provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and support to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage a team of approximately 13 workshop staff
- Oversee workflow to ensure jobs are completed on time and within schedule
- Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance across a varied fleet
- Support and mentor an apprentice mechanic
- Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and workshop organisation
- Liaise with internal stakeholders regarding fleet requirements and job priorities
- Provide technical guidance when required
- Trade qualified Diesel Mechanic (essential)
- Strong mechanical knowledge across heavy vehicles and plant equipment
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Organised, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities
- Confident communicator with the ability to lead and motivate a team
- Solutions-focused with strong problem-solving skills
