About the Role

Applications are invited for the position of Community Child Health Fellow within the Child Health department at Waikato Hospital commencing February 2026. This is an opportunity to be part of a progressive team based in a modern tertiary hospital.

This Community Child Health position is suitable for Trainees in Community Child Health (CCH), Joint Trainees in CCH and General Paediatrics or those wanting to have a well-rounded experience prior to completing advanced training.The position offers experience in Child Behaviour and Development, Child Protection and Population Child Health.
Outpatient clinics are based at Gateway and Child Development Centre with support from an extensive allied health team (clinical psychologists, OT, VNT and physiotherapy) with visiting specialist Neurologists from Starship. Community based multidisciplinary Paediatric experience is excellent.You will be involved in the General Paediatric after hours roster, not including nights.

The role is accredited by RACP CCH SAC for Advanced Training in Community Child Health.

About the Team/Service

Neonatal Services at Waikato Hospital is a 41 bed neonatal unit with 17 level 3 beds, including an isolation room, and provides a range of perinatal and neonatal services including a paediatric surgical service and emergency regional retrieval service.

Te Whatu Ora Waikato District serves a population of more than 390,000 (950,000 in the whole Midland region) and covers more than 21,000 square km. It stretches from northern Coromandel to close to Mt Ruapehu in the south and from Raglan on the west coast to Waihi on the east.

There are around 7000 births per year. The Waikato is the perfect region for someone wanting close access to beaches, lakes and mountains, to enjoy the numerous outdoor activities we have at our door step.

About you

As a Community Child Health Fellow, you will be an advanced trainee in the RACP training programme, interested in a career in Community Child Health and/or General Paediatrics, with a desire to diversify your experience beyond the acute clinical role.Attendance at the NZ CCH Programme of Excellence is expected, as well as the opportunity to take papers in Public Health through the University of Auckland
