About the Position | Te Mahi
We are looking for Community Support Workers to provide dedicated support to a Service User in Pongakawa who is following recovery from a stroke. The role involves working closely with the rehabilitation team and assisting the client to complete tasks as independently as possible, while actively participating with medical and rehab services to optimise recovery.
Support work is fun, people-facing, challenging, and very rewarding, and it is also a deeply empathetic journey. It is more than a job; it is an opportunity to provide invaluable support, led by the people you will be supporting.
Responsibilities may Include:- Assisting with personal cares (showering, bathing)
- Assisting with household management and meal preparation
- Assisting with accessing the community
- Supporting exercise programmes
- Bowel, Bladder, and Catheter cares
- Moving and handling hoists and manual transfers
- Medication support
Employment Type: Part time
Days of work: As this is community-based work, 24/7 rotating rosters would be involved. We are looking for dedicated support workers who are comfortable covering the following shifts: 48 hours of weekend support (two 24-hour shifts) from Saturday 7am to Sunday 7am

You are a calm but confident-natured individual who can demonstrate resilience and understand the challenges of our service users. There are many responsibilities associated with being a support worker which can be challenging and fulfilling.It is rewarding when you are part of the support that enables a person to live their best lives in the community.
The candidate would have (Candidate Pre-Requisites):
- Ideally, prior personal care experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with complex medical conditions, including stroke recovery, is advantageous
- Access to a 2WD or 4WD vehicle and ability to drive independently (full NZ Driver's License required)
- A Level 3 or Level 4 Health and Wellbeing qualification is beneficial and those looking to enter the healthcare sector will also be considered (comprehensive training can be provided)
- Flexibility to work on a rotating roster
- Legal right to work in New Zealand is a must.
- Pay Band: $24.73 - $30.78 per hour (This is based on the Pay Equity Settlement 2017 – hourly pay rates based on equivalency of Healthcare Qualifications assessed under Pay Equity).
