Casual Relief Teacher (Steiner) | Waiheke Island

Fossil Bay School & Kindergarten is a small, community-focused Steiner school on Waiheke Island. We offer kindergarten and primary education based on a modern Steiner curriculum, with a screen-free, unhurried approach and small class sizes. Kindness, creativity, and genuine attention to each child sit at the heart of our work.

Set in a beautiful semi-rural environment, just a short walk from Oneroa and two stunning beaches, our school offers a nature-rich setting where children can truly thrive. Our programme is grounded in anthroposophy and shaped by rhythm, relationship, and experiential learning through story, art, movement, and practical work.

We are seeking a casual relief teacher who can confidently step into our classroom when needed and carry the day with calm presence and clarity. This is not a “stand and supervise” role — we are looking for someone who can hold the rhythm of a Steiner day, connect with the children, and continue the learning in a meaningful way.

You might be a registered teacher with an interest in Steiner education, or someone with relevant experience who feels aligned with this approach. Ideally, you bring:

• A warm, grounded presence and natural authority with children
• Creativity and responsiveness — able to tell a story, guide an activity, or adapt as needed
• Reliability and flexibility, as this is a casual, as-needed role
• An openness to Steiner pedagogy (experience is a preference, but not essential)

This is a casual position, with hours depending on staffing needs. Applicants must already hold NZ teacher registration and be eligible to work in New Zealand.
