Nelson Tasman Hospice is a charitable organisation with a talented team providing compassionate, specialist palliative care to patients and their whanau in our community.
We are seeking a Retail Assistant Manager to join our Takaka Hospice Shop, playing a vital role in generating funds that directly support the care we provide.
About the Role:
This is a permanent position, with hours that vary seasonally:
Summer hours - Monday to Thursday and Sunday 34.5 hours per week (0.88 FTE)Winter hours - Monday to Thursday 30 hours per week (0.75 FTE)
Working closely with the Retail Manager, you’ll help ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the shop while fostering a welcoming, values-based environment for customers, volunteers, and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Retail Manager in the day-to-day running of the shop
- Lead, motivate, and support volunteers, creating a positive and inclusive culture
- Manage stock and merchandising, from processing donations through to pricing, rotating, and presenting items for sale
- Deliver excellent customer service, ensuring every visitor feels welcomed and valued
- Handle cash management and reconciliations accurately and efficiently
- Champion health, safety, and wellbeing by maintaining a clean, safe, and supportive environment
- Step into the Retail Manager role when required to ensure continuity of operations
- Previous retail experience, including confidence with cash handling
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- A positive team player with clear communication and leadership capability
- Physically able to assist with moving and displaying stock, including furniture
- A passion for op shopping and a genuine desire to make a difference in your community
