Our North Shore client is a New Zealand-based organisation that provides support services for people managing their own disability funding. They offer tools, resources, and personalised assistance to help clients manage their funding efficiently and independently, supporting a more flexible and person-centred approach to care.

We’re working alongside our client to find a fabulous Payroll Officer to support their high-volume, rolling fortnightly payroll operations. This role requires a deep understanding of New Zealand payroll legislation, advanced payroll processing and analysis skills, and the ability to mentor a payroll team.

The successful candidate will contribute to ensuring payroll is accurate, compliant, and efficiently managed.

This is a full-time role offering hybrid working arrangements (up to two days working from home) and a highly competitive remuneration package.

Key Responsibilities (not limited to)

Payroll Management:

  • Support the end-to-end payroll process for clients, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with legal requirements
  • Manage complex pay structures, including allowances, benefits, entitlements, bonuses, and overtime
  • Provide guidance on technical payroll queries, including one-off or unusual processing requests
  • Conduct regular payroll reviews to maintain consistency and identify any issues early
  • Maintain clear records for manual calculations, adjustments, investigations, and review findings
  • Ensure payroll practices meet all relevant New Zealand employment legislation, including the Employment Relations Act, Holidays Act, Wages Protection Act, and Minimum Wage Act
  • Keep up to date with payroll-related legislative changes and ensure these are reflected in both payroll systems and internal processes
  • Stay informed on payroll provider updates and ensure familiarity with relevant system features and changes
  • Assist with the review and reconciliation of payroll reports used by management
  • Investigate discrepancies and escalate any issues to the Team Leader, with a focus on solutions and continuous improvement

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum 5 years of New Zealand payroll experience, within large organisations
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand employment and payroll related legislation, and payroll best practices.
  • Experience using a variety of payroll systems and interfaces (Datapay experience is a bonus!)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • A curious thinker with well-developed analytical abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels both verbally and in writing
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
