Position Overview
Due to a staff member moving on after 5 and a half years...Rockley Farm is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Shepherd to join our team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about livestock, with strong communication and problem solving skills, a commitment to high animal welfare and someone who takes pride in their work.
This Position has the opportunity for the right applicant to move into a Stock Manager Role in the future.You will work closely with the Farm Owner to oversee day-to-day stock operations and ensure efficient and safe farming practices.

Key Responsibilities- Manage and carry out all aspects of sheep and beef stock work, including:
- Mustering, drafting, weighing, and yard work
- Animal health treatments and monitoring
- Lambing and calving supervision
- Oversee pasture management and assist with feed planning
- Operate and maintain farm machinery, vehicles, and equipment when needed
- Maintain farm infrastructure (fences, water systems, yards)
- Support and help lead junior staff when needed
- Record keeping via Resolution, MyBallance and Tabula
- Uphold high standards of animal welfare, health, and safety
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a shepherding role
- Experience with working dogs essential, a team of 3-5 working dogs.
- Strong stockmanship and animal health knowledge
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication and leadership skills
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic and a willingness to learn
- Someone who takes pride in what they do and keeps the environment around them tidy.
- Competent in using technology and trying new concepts

About Rockley FarmRockley Farm ltd is a family-owned farming business based out of Balfour in Northern Southland, currently owning 700ha between 2 main blocks running a mix of sheep, Angus Stud and Dairy Support.
The Dairy support is young stock grazing and wintering of Dairy cows from the Dairy farm also owned alongside Rockley Farm Ltd.
The operation is Diverse but offers many opportunities for learning in: Lamb finishing, Beef finishing, Stud Operations and Dairy Support.________________________________________
