Health Promoter - Bowel Screening Programme WaikatoBased at the Cancer Society Building, 511 Grey St, Hamilton East 3204Permanent 2 x full time roles (40 hours per week)Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Waikato is looking for two exceptional senior Health Promoters to develop separate work streams (depending on the experience of the successful applicants) focussing on implementation of hauora resources, workshops and initiatives to promote bowel screening on marae, in workplaces and communities across the Waikato.

About the RoleWere on a mission to encourage proactive hauora practices which includes participation in bowel cancer screening. If youre passionate about hauora and can demonstrate an ability to drive the implementation of health promotion initiatives, weve got an exciting opportunity for you.You will work alongside other bowel screening staff and teams within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora to raise awareness of and participation in the free national bowel screening programme, prioritising engagement with Māori and Pacific communities.On a daily basis you will:Work together with other staff to drive the development and delivery of wānanga in community settings or workshops in workplaces to create greater awareness of and education about the importance of bowel screening (particularly targeting Māori and Pacific people).Develop a suite of resources and templates to support the promotion of community wānanga, workplace workshops, or learning sessions for a variety of community or workplace needs.Proactively network with workplaces, employer networks, occupational health providers, community organisations, hauora providers and marae to seek opportunities to promote bowel screening.Experience in health promotion, workplace and /or community engagement is essential.

You will come with examples of ideas you have developed and delivered, which have improved health or social outcomes for Māori and Pacific people.These are permanent, full-time positions, where you will work Monday to Friday, and be available for intermittent evening and weekend work, both locally and across the wider Waikato region when required.Click here to view the position description.

About the Team / ServiceHealth New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Waikato promotes the national bowel screening programme with eligible people between the age range of 50-74 years old. We expect to achieve bowel cancer screening rates of 60% for all eligible people.The current participation rate for eligible Māori living in the Waikato area is 47%, and for eligible Pacific people is 40%.The Waikato Bowel Screening Community team is passionate and committed to increasing these participation rates.

For more information on living and working in Waikato click here About youRequired skills and experience:Have established community networks and engagement experience with Māori and / or Pacific communities.A minimum of 4 years' experience in health promotion or health education in a hauora Māori or workplace environment.Demonstrated experience in proactively developing engagement ideas and delivering on innovative solutions.Full New Zealand Drivers License.Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong relationship development skills.Facilitation and / or presentation skills.Desirable:Under-graduate education in a relevant area of study.Event management experience (planning and designing).Workplace learning and development experience.Expertise in te ao Māori hauora models or other relevant mātauranga Māori.Have established relationships with local iwi and hapū across the Waikato district.
