Early Intervention Clinician, Community Mental Health TeamTaranaki Base HospitalPermanent Part time (72 hours per fortnight)Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.About the RoleAs an Early Intervention Clinician, you will play a valuable role in the multidisciplinary team, working with vulnerable whai ora experiencing first episode psychosis and their whanau.

Utilising a range of skills and modalities, the clinician will support the person and whanau to better understand their experience, identify signs and symptoms of psychosis, develop plans to manage symptoms and what may help to reduce or prevent relapse.

The role will also include: Undertaking initial comprehensive assessments for whai ora referred to community mental health, particularly those with suspected psychosis Utilizing expertise to develop rapport and trust through engagement, education, advice, accessing community-based support services and negotiating treatment approaches When required respond to urgent needs or relapse episodes, navigating and supporting whai ora access crisis or acute response services and ensure plans are in place to exit acute response services.

Most of the work will occurs in the community setting and includes liaison with other teams (inpatient, alcohol and drug services, etc) as appropriate.We can offer you a welcoming and supportive environment with a team that is committed to ensuring you are successful in your role.

We will also provide a comprehensive orientation process when you start so that you become familiar not only with our service but also the wider mental health sector in Taranaki.For more information on living and working in Taranaki click hereAbout youSuccessful candidates will have:A current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) in New ZealandExperience in, and passion for, working with whai ora experiencing significant mental health distressExcellent assessment skills, particularly in undertaking neuropsychological assessments and interpretation.Adept therapeutic skills and knowledgeable in a variety of therapeutic modalities.Exceptional interpersonal, communication & relationship building skillsFlexibility to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team and provide clinical leadership and supervision within the team.Understanding and application of the principles of the treaty of Waitangi, with a culturally safe and appropriate approach to practiceDisplay enthusiasm to embrace new ideas and innovative thinking towards service delivery.Working at Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
