Excavator Operator

Barnsy’s All Trade Services is a well established Earthworks, Drainage and Civil Construction company. Locally owned and operated since 2007 in Christchurch, New Zealand. From clearing liquefaction for locals in 2011 to working on remedial projects, we are proud to contribute to the restoration of Christchurch city over the years.

We are on the hunt for a skilled Excavator Operator with 5 years experience, confident in managing jobs and eager to develop their skills.

This is a Senior position.

• This is a ‘hands on’ role and you will work on residential, commercial and industrial sites in Canterbury.
• You are a skilled and experienced excavator operator who can effectively operate various heavy machinery in a safe and appropriate manner. You stand beside your workmanship.
• You will have 3-5 years experience driving a range of size diggers from 5T - 20T.
• You are confident in understanding plans and scope and you are able to plan a project and execute from start to finish.
• You will be able to excavate sites in preparation for foundation or slab installation; excavate trenches for services; drill for piles; or as directed.
• You will be able to diagnose problems and identify solutions to resolve them or be willing to learn to problem solve.

• Perform daily machinery checks and tools needed for the job
• You will read site plans, measure heights using a laser and peg out the footprint. Excavate to those levels within the timeframe and scope set.
• You will demolish structures or buildings, excavate and clear sites to a safe and high standard; prepare sites for the next phase of construction.
• You will liaise with sub contractors or others contracted to the client project, including but not limited to: Council inspectors, Engineers, Contractors, Clients, members of the public.
• You will have effective communication skills, and the ability to direct staff on the ground and delegate work. You will be able to communicate delays or issues with others.
• You will be responsible for each site and will conduct the appropriate Health and Safety checks, complete Job safety analysis, a hazard checklist and health and safety boards before starting work on each site.
• You will be responsible for keeping the job site tidy including the footpaths and roads surrounding the job site.
• You may be asked to perform other generic construction tasks within the business.

• 3-5 years proven experience of operating heavy machinery
• Hold a Full NZ Drivers License
• Class 4 and 5 Truck License and WTR desirable
• Examples of project jobs completed
• SiteSafe, First aid, construction certificates desirable
