About the role:
Becoming an Animal Control Officer is a unique and challenging role that requires a combination of skills, education, and personal attributes. We have an exciting opportunity to earn extra income while working as an Animal Control Officer across Rangiora - North Canterbury region!
This is a casual, on-call position with shifts as follows: Monday to Friday, 4:30pm–8:30am; Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays, 4:30pm–8:00am or 8:00am–6:00pm.
Note:
Weekend on-call duties are typically divided into two distinct shifts; however, candidates interested in covering a full 24-hour period are encouraged to submit an application. A full 24-hour shift earns two on-call payments. This results in 9 on-call periods per week in the roster.
Mandatory Requirements:
To progress through the recruitment process, you must consent to and be able to satisfy pre-employment checks, including:- Currently are based in North Canterbury and able to respond locally
- Hold a current Certificate of Approval (COA) or ability to obtain one
- Possess a valid Full NZ Driver’s License.
- Demonstrate willingness to participate in an on-call roster as required.
- Exhibit flexibility regarding working hours, including availability for nights and weekends.
- Display confidence in both independent work and collaborative team environments.
- Maintain strong communication abilities and composure while under pressure.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Experience in dog handling and animal behaviour
- First Aid Certificate
- NZ Certificate in Regulatory Compliance (Core Knowledge) (Level 3) preferred.
- Previous experience liaising with SPCA, NZ Police, DOC, community groups, and local Iwi.
