The Role

We’re looking for a compassionate and motivated Support Worker to join our Residential team in Wider Wellington. This is a casual role involving weekend and sleepovers, you will be working across a range of services to cover short term vacancies.

The people you support value kindness, consistency, and building strong relationships with the people around them. Your role will be to promote their independence, respect their routines, and support them to continue living a full and connected life in their community.

The activities they enjoy is Bowling, going out for codee, taking walks, ice cream trips, drives, gardening, cooking, music , swimming and keeping fit.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative individual who is actively engaged in the Wellington community. While having a background or interest in autism and intellectual disabilities is beneficial, an eagerness to learn is equally important.

A commitment to making a positive impact on people's lives, community engagement, and strong non-verbal and verbal communication skills will make you a great fit for this role.

To succeed, you will need strong relationship-building skills, a calm and compassionate demeanor, and excellent communication skills. Knowledge of basic sign language is an advantage, and a flexible mindset is essential. You must be able to follow clear routines while also adapting to changing needs.

Essential criteria for this role:

  • Full NZ Driver's Licence
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand
  • Willingness to undergo criminal and Oranga Tamariki checks
  • Availability to work weekend and overnight shifts

Desirable:

  • Certificate in Health and Wellbeing, Level 3 or above
  • Basic sign language knowledge
  • Experience in positive behavioural support
  • Understanding of autism and intellectual disability
  • Experience of assisting someone who has echolalia
