One New Zealand Stadium is less than a year away from opening and we're entering an exciting phase of growth and transformation. Venues Otautahi is thrilled to commence recruiting for a number of key roles across the business who will play a critical part in ensuring the successful launch and long-term success of the stadium and ultimately bring the stadium to life!
Venues Otautahi own the Christchurch Town Hall and Wolfbrook Arena and manage Apollo Projects Stadium, Hagley Oval, the Air Force Museum of New Zealand, and One New Zealand Stadium. Venues Otautahi venues attract and host a wide range of over 500 events in Christchurch and manage a diverse and iconic portfolio of community venues.

The events held across the Venues Otautahi portfolio deliver significant social, cultural, and economic benefit to the region and ultimately these iconic city venues play a valued role to the Christchurch way of life and the economic prosperity and social wellbeing of the region.
About the Role
Venues Otautahi is accepting applications for the Health and Safety Coordinator - Event Operations. This is a full-time, permanent position offering an exciting opportunity to be part of the dynamic events industry. Flexibility is essential, as the position operates within a seven-day event schedule and may include shift work, evenings, and weekends to support a wide range of events across our venue portfolio.
Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety and Risk, this position is key to ensuring the safe delivery of all VO events, working alongside our workforce, contractors, and clients across Venues Otautahi’s managed venues.
Key responsibilities of the position are as follows:
Foster a safety-conscious culture by promoting active participation and ownership of safety responsibilities.Pre- Event Planning - Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential health and safety hazards associated with the event.
Develop comprehensive health and safety plans tailored to the specific requirements of each event.
During Event - Coordinate with various departments and vendors to ensure the execution of health and safety measures.
Set up emergency response plans, including medical services, evacuation procedures, and communication protocols.
Post Event - Identify areas of improvement and develop recommendations for future events.
Manage a programme of health, safety, and wellbeing audits, including food safety audits, ensuring compliance with legislation, company guidelines, and safety management plans.
About you
It's an exciting time to join Venues Otautahi. The Health and Safety Coordinator - Event Operations is a hands-on role, just like all roles at VO.
The successful candidate will have:
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by our dynamic event schedule.A minimum of two years’ experience in a Health and Safety Coordinator role.
Sound knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Prior experience working in the events industry would be an advantage.
The ability to identify problems clearly, evaluate alternative solutions, assess risks and benefits, seek input, and make sound, informed decisions.
