OverviewTwo Pilot Homes are being established in Dunedin and Hamilton. This is an amazing opportunity to be a part of a new approach to care in our Homes, helping to increase the capacity for care in regions and to be a part of a wider community of practice in the region.The pilot Home will test some new concepts which are aimed at reducing challenges we face when caring for tamariki and rangatahi in small group home settings.The Homes will provide emergency, respite or planned care for up to 5 tamariki in each location.

Care in the Homes will be provided by full-time live-in caregivers, supported by skilled Care Workers.These 12-month pilot Homes, named 'WHARE', will: Provide Whanau-like care with fulltime, live in caregivers Be Helped by a small group of flexible and qualified care staff, overseen by a Supervisor (Social Worker) Be focused on Achieving the goals and aspirations that tamariki and whanau have set in their All About Me Plan Focus on providing Relational and restorative care Be closely Engaged with local communities, sites and regions with leadership coming from regional teams and accountability to local, external stakeholders Mō te tūnga | About the role: Care Worker HomesA Care Worker Homes is a key member of the care team in Homes responsible for providing day to day care and specialised programmes for tamariki living in Oranga Tamariki led Homes.

Working in close collaboration with the team at the Home as well as key regional stakeholders the Specialised Care Worker plays a vital role in developing strong relationships with tamariki in the Home and supporting them to achieve their goals.What successful candidates will bring to the role:Qualifications A relevant tertiary qualification at Level 3 or above, or a demonstrated commitment to working towards one, in areas such as: Mental Health, Youth Work, Disabilities, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Sport and Recreation, Music, Art, Education Qualifications or demonstrated experience in kaupapa Māori approaches to wellbeing and youth development, including culturally grounded practices A clean, Full New Zealand current driver’s licence is essentialSkills Ability to develop warm, safe and meaningful relationships.

Ability to be flexible and open to new learning. Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural issues and concerns, in particular, knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples’ culture. Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas to a range of audiences. The ability to collaborate with others, internally and externally, to achieve mutually agreed goals. An ability to advocate and influence action in areas where this is needed.

Ability to build and maintain rapport with others based on their own integrity and honesty, demonstrating effective interpersonal skills.
