About the role
Our dedicated team at Highlands village located in Highland Park, East Auckland are looking for a Head Gardener to join them. This village has a great resident community and needs a strong and passionate team leader, who can together with the gardening team, maintain and develop the luscious botanical gardens set across 12 acres for our residents and visitors to enjoy!With over 1000 roses, ponds and a bird aviary, this role will offer the successful candidate variety and challenge.
This is a full-time permanent role working Monday to Friday 7.30am to 4pm = 40hrs week.
As an experienced and passionate Head Gardener, the main responsibilities you will oversee include:- Establishing new planting as required to maintain standard of gardens (plants, roses, shrubs, trees etc), making sure the right plants are put in the right area for the village to maintain ascetics, seasonal changes and future management.
- Utilising the garden maintenance feedback to prioritise requests and maintains communication to Village Manager and residents around planned works.
- Putting together and actioning planned maintenance programs
- Responsible for managing all gardening budgets.
- Leading a team of 3 direct reports and engaging and supervising any external contractors.
- Maintenance of gardening equipment and ensuring it is used as per instructions and staff are trained in appropriate use of equipment.
About you
This is a great role to make your own and shape the landscape at the Village. You'll be confident in your gardening abilities and able to communicate with a range of people.- Previous Horticultural experience as a Gardener or Landscaper is essential and a passion for gardening and ground maintenance.
- Proven leadership and staff management experience is essential.
- Clean full Driver's License
- Thorough knowledge of gardening and landscaping methods for this 'hands on role'
- Strong technical knowledge
- You'll be physically fit as you'll need to operate garden machinery
- Strong focus on Health and Safety standards
- Ability to plan and communicate with a range of stakeholders including the Village Management and residents
