We’re seeking a Stock Manager/2IC to join our team on a 640-hectare sheep and beef property in the Patoka district, Hawke's Bay. With approximately 6,200 stock units, this full-time role offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to make a real impact.

Purpose of the Position
To manage the day-to-day livestock operations of a breeding and finishing sheep and beef farming enterprise, ensuring optimal animal health, pasture management, and productivity. The Stock Manager will play a key role in planning and executing seasonal farm activities, maintaining high standards of animal welfare, and contributing to the overall success of the property.
The Stock Manager will report to the Farm Manager/Owner; however they also hold roles off farm, therefore autonomy and ability to manage the day-to-day operations is imperative.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee livestock operations including feeding, breeding, health monitoring, and stock movements.
- Implement and monitor grazing plans to optimize pasture use and animal performance.
- Maintain accurate records of stock numbers, treatments, and performance.
- Assist with planning and executing farm development projects.
- Operate and maintain farm machinery and infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and animal welfare standards.
- Work with external contractors and stakeholders
- Daily stock shifts, checks and animal health assessments.
- Drafting, weighing, and yard work.
- Calving, lambing, docking, and weaning.
- Data & record management
- Environmental planning and stewardship
- Pasture and crop management including fertiliser application.
- Fencing, water systems, and general farm maintenance.
- Coordination with contractors, vets, and suppliers.
- Reports to: Farm Owner
- Works closely with: Farm owner, contractors, veterinarians, and rural suppliers.
- External: Local community and agricultural service providers.
