Farm Worker – Arable & Livestock | Northern Southland

We’re a family-run 860 ha farm in Balfour growing mainly arable crops (around 600ha), with the rest in grass and fodder for sheep and beef. We run a modern fleet of tractors and gear and take real pride in keeping it tidy and running well.

We’re on the hunt for someone who’s keen, practical, machinery-minded and enjoys a bit of variety. Someone who likes a laugh, works well in a team, and doesn’t mind getting stuck in when the pressure’s on.

We won’t sugar coat it — farming isn’t all sunshine and tractor cabs (although the views from ours across Northern Southland are pretty hard to beat). There’ll be long days at busy times like seeding and harvest, plenty of different jobs, and the odd challenge thrown in.

But you’ll also be working for good people who are passionate about agriculture.

What the job involves:

Tractor and machinery operation including baling and wrapping
Arable cropping work including cultivation, drilling and harvest
Stock work and allocating feed
General farm jobs – fencing, maintenance, repairs, the usual bits and pieces

What we’re looking for

Full driver’s licence (HT would be a bonus)
Experienced in operating machinery
Practical, reliable and willing to learn
Someone who can work independently but also as part of a team
A good sense of humour helps
