As a Leading Hand Landscaper, you'll enjoy working hands-on, while guiding and supporting your crew. You will lead by example, manage day-to-day activities on site, and ensure we deliver high-quality landscaping projects across the Central Otago region.
You'll be:
- Preparing sites for planting, using your expertise to identify appropriate planting techniques to ensure that plants are handled correctly and treated correctly to promote growth and prevent damage.
- Selecting plants to suit the location and soil types.
- Maintaining plants through mulching, fertilising, pruning and staking.
- Installing irrigation and drainage systems.
- Mowing, weed eating and preparing turf.
- Constructing planters and plant beds and climbing frames.
- Installing pavers and building small sculptural features.
- Hourly Rate $31.00 - $34.00 based on experience.
- 40 Hours per week + overtime.
- The position is based in Alexandra and will require some travel to other locations around the Central Otago region. Transport will be provided if a work site is outside Alexandra.
- Tools and equipment are provided.

- Are self-motivated and able to think on their feet.
- Have a flexible approach to working hours.
- Are willing to assist with vegetation maintenance across the full range of landscaping needs.
- A level 4 qualification in landscaping or a minimum of three years recent commercial landscaping experience in public places, orchards, commercial and high-end residential gardens, company grounds etc. The qualification or experience should include:
- Experience across a range of landscaping environments
- Competency in plant, shrub and tree identification, especially NZ native vegetation
- Strong knowledge of plant husbandry, including planting and propagation, pruning and plant care and maintenance
- Practical experience installing irrigation systems
- Chainsaw operations
- Experienced in operating tractors, mowers and similar compact gardening machinery.
- Full NZ Drivers Licence (Class 1)
It will also be advantageous to have:
- Leadership experience
- Class 2 NZ driver's licence
