Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the delivery of complex landscape construction projects, including high-end residential and commercial builds.
  • Be hands-on: on the tools while leading the site and team.
  • Manage project programmes, sequencing of works, and site coordination to ensure deadlines and budgets are met.
  • Oversee the construction of hardscape features such as retaining walls, concrete works, decks, pergolas, pools, and bespoke detailing, alongside planting and softscape works.
  • Read, interpret, and implement detailed landscape and architectural plans with a high level of accuracy.
  • Supervise and mentor junior landscapers and subcontractors, maintaining quality control across all stages of the build.
  • Ensure all materials, machinery, and subcontractors are coordinated for seamless project delivery.
  • Maintain clear communication with clients, designers, and the wider SGLA team, providing updates and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Uphold health and safety standards on site, taking responsibility for safe work practices and compliance.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ proven experience in landscape construction, including managing teams and projects.
  • Strong skills in site preparation, construction set-out, carpentry, concreting, stonework, hardscape and softscape.
  • Proven ability to lead a site from start to finish with a focus on quality craftsmanship and efficient delivery.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills; able to work closely with directors, designers, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Confident problem-solver; able to make decisions on site.
  • Full, clean driver’s licence essential; ability to tow trailers and operate machinery an advantage.
  • NZ residency or eligibility to work in New Zealand.
What We Offer / Culture & Growth:
  • A supportive, close-knit team environment where the senior builder/project manager works directly with the directors and designers.
  • Strong company culture with long-standing team members and stable roles.
  • Room for growth: as the company continues to take on more ambitious projects, opportunities to increase leadership and scope.
  • Vehicle and petrol supplied as part of the package.
  • Mid-sized company scale: more visibility, more say in how things are done, and a chance to see the real impact of your work.
