The Tin Shed is a proudly New Zealand owned retail business, specialising in premium NZ-made clothing and homeware. For over 40 years, we’ve welcomed loyal locals and international visitors to our rural South Canterbury store, alongside a growing online presence.

We’re entering an exciting new era under next-generation family ownership and are seeking a confident and capable Retail Operations Lead to be second-in-command on the shop floor.

This is a senior, hands-on retail position, ideal for someone who thrives in a boutique environment, enjoys delivering exceptional customer experiences, and can support both in-store and online operations. You’ll work closely with the owner to ensure smooth daily operations, maintain high standards of presentation, and deliver premium service.

Your day-to-day will include:
  • Leading in-store sales and supporting a small retail team, setting high service standards.
  • Maintaining high visual merchandising and presentation standards.
  • Managing stock, incoming goods, POS records, and assisting with product purchasing.
  • Overseeing online order fulfilment, including picking, packing, dispatch, and returns.
  • Monitoring and responding to customer enquiries via email and phone.
  • Assisting with POS and e-commerce product updates.
  • Acting as second-in-command in the owner’s absence, supporting operational decisions.
About You
  • Minimum 3 years retail experience preferred.
  • Friendly, professional, and genuinely customer-focused.
  • Proactive, confident, and takes ownership of tasks and decisions.
  • Motivated to grow sales while delivering relationship-based service.
  • Organised, able to multitask, and attentive to detail.
  • Adaptable, calm under pressure, and solutions-focused.
  • Passionate about premium products and visual presentation.
  • Comfortable using POS systems and digital tools; Shopify or Lightspeed experience is an advantage.
