Position Summary:

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for servicing, diagnosing, and repairing diesel engines and related mechanical and electrical systems in heavy vehicles, machinery, and equipment. The role includes both preventative maintenance and fault-based repairs to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable vehicle operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair faults in diesel engines, transmissions, and associated mechanical systems of heavy vehicles, machinery and equipment.
  • Identify and repair electrical issues in wiring, alternators, starter motors, lighting, and batteries.
  • Perform routine servicing and maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, and system checks.
  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble mechanical and electrical components.
  • Use diagnostic equipment and service manuals to assess and resolve faults.
  • Install and maintain sensors, relays, and other auto-electrical components.
  • Maintain accurate job records and report additional repair needs.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety and environmental standards.
  • Liaise with supervisors and team members for efficient job completion.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A qualification equivalent to NZQF Level 4 or above in a relevant field OR at least 2 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Practical experience with diesel engine and mechanical repairs.
  • Working knowledge of automotive electrical systems.
  • Competency using diagnostic tools and workshop equipment.
