This is your opportunity to influence decisions that protect our nation and its people.DPMC’s National Security and Resilience Group is seeking three Advisors to support policy development on dynamic, high-profile, and significant national security issues in a collaborative, cross-agency environment.
Successful applicants will support the provision of advice to Ministers and Chief Executives, coordination of work programmes across government, and engagement with international counterparts. These are exciting roles at the heart of central government.You’ll work with agencies across the public service, including NZ intelligence, defence, security, and more, on a range of topics highlighted in the National Security Strategy and National Risk and Resilience Framework.In this role, you will: Contribute to the development of high-quality policy advice on national security issues.
Draft strategy and policy papers, briefings, and internal reports to support decision-making. Conduct research, analysis, and synthesise insights to support informed advice, drawing on information from a range of diverse sources across government, society, and internationally.
Support the development and passage of legislation and regulations. Monitor domestic and international developments in national security, national risk and resilience policy. Participate in inter-agency projects, meetings, and consultations across the national security and resilience systems.
Support engagement with international partners to share information and best practice, and collaborate on policy issues. Assist in planning, coordinating, and supporting high level attendance at international meetings and engagements. About You – Mōu AnōTo succeed in this role, you will bring: A tertiary degree in a relevant field such as public policy, international relations, security studies, law, political science, economics, risk management, or a related area.
At least 2 years’ work experience, ideally in a policy or policy-adjacent role. Strong policy research and analysis capability, with the ability to interpret complex information. Strong writing and oral communications skills. Ability to build relationships across a wide array of stakeholders.
Enthusiasm, diligence and curiosity. Internship or relevant junior policy experience in the public sector or similar environment. Interest in national security, national risk and resilience. Experience working in cross-agency or multi-disciplinary contexts is an advantage.
Experience in legislation and regulation development is an advantage. Security Requirements | Ngā Whakaritenga HaumarutangaYou must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special security clearance. Normally to obtain this level of clearance you must be a New Zealand citizen or hold a Resident class visa.
Alternatively, you must have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia with a 15-year checkable background.
