Restore Native
Cambridge, Waikato

Full-time permanent role

Help keep a fast-growing native restoration business financially organised, accurate, and moving

Restore Native is a growing native plant nursery and ecological restoration business based in Cambridge. We grow native plants and deliver restoration projects that improve biodiversity, waterways, land, and local environments.

We’re looking for a capable Finance and Administration Coordinator to take ownership of key financial administration tasks across the business.

This is a hands-on role in a practical, fast-moving small business. You’ll work directly with the business owner and wider team to keep our financial systems accurate, organised, and up to date.

About the level of this role

Although the title is Finance and Administration Coordinator, this is not a basic admin or data-entry role.

We’re looking for someone who can take real ownership of the financial administration function in a busy, growing business. This would suit a capable mid-level to senior financial administrator, bookkeeper, or accounts person.

We are also open to someone earlier in their career if they can clearly demonstrate strong accuracy, judgement, initiative, and the aptitude to grow into a leadership position.

You don’t need to be a CFO or Financial Controller, but you do need to care about getting the numbers right, keeping systems tidy, following through, and bringing calm structure to a business where there is a lot happening.

What this role is really like

Restore Native is not a “same thing every day” type of business. We’re fast-moving, constantly evolving, and priorities can shift quickly depending on projects, weather, customers, operational needs, and new opportunities.

Because the business is growing quickly, people often need to wear multiple hats, think on their feet, and pivot when needed. This role needs someone adaptable, proactive, solutions-focused, and comfortable with change and pressure.

For the right person, that creates an exciting environment with variety, room to improve systems, and real opportunity to make an impact.

You’ll often be the go-to person for finance and admin problem-solving, so we’re looking for someone who can take ownership, think ahead, follow through, communicate clearly, and stay accurate.

We also use technology, including AI tools, to improve how we work. You do not need to be an AI expert, but you do need to be curious, open-minded, and willing to explore better ways of doing things.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you’ll help keep the financial and admin side of Restore Native accurate, organised, and moving.

Key responsibilities include:

Preparing and sending invoices in Xero
Keeping revenue reporting accurate and up to date
Supporting job costing
Responding to day-to-day staff finance and admin queries
Managing data around stock levels
Maintaining accurate financial records in Xero
Payroll administration
Keeping financial information organised, accurate, and easy to access

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who has:

Bookkeeping, accounts, or financial administration experience in a small or growing business
Confidence using Xero
Strong accuracy and attention to detail
Good communication skills
The ability to take ownership and work without close supervision
Confidence asking questions and following up missing information

Curiosity around AI, automation, systems, and better ways of working

You’ll be a strong fit if you naturally like to make things tidy, accurate, and easy to understand, and are comfortable working with a busy team where information may need to be followed up.

What we offer

Meaningful work

You’ll be part of a business doing genuinely positive work for the land and environment.

Future opportunity

We’re growing quickly, and the right person will have room to grow, take ownership, improve systems, and develop their role.

A non-corporate workplace

We are unashamedly not corporate. We’re practical, nimble, and open to better ways of doing things. We value people, ideas, and performance over unnecessary layers and rigid structures.

Flexibility and autonomy

We want to give the right person the working conditions they need to perform at their best, including flexible hours or shaping better systems around the role.

Performance matters

Freedom and autonomy come with an expectation of accuracy, ownership, communication, and follow-through.

Location

Based in Cambridge, Waikato.

The expectation is about 50% on-site at our nursery/office, with the potential for about 50% to be worked from home.
