Wellington - Funeral Director

Are you looking for a career that offers real meaning and personal fulfilment in an industry where no two days are the same?

The Harbour City Funeral Home Group is seeking an empathetic, compassionate, self-motivated, and physically capable individual to join our respected team of funeral professionals. With locations across Wellington, the Hutt Valley, and Kapiti Coast, we are proud to serve our communities with care, dignity, and professionalism.

This role is primarily based in Wellington, however flexibility to work across our wider network is essential.

While previous experience or qualifications in the funeral industry are preferred, we are open to hearing from candidates who believe they have the emotional maturity, professionalism, and adaptability to succeed in this rewarding field.

This is not a pastoral care role.

It is a unique form of time-sensitive event coordination, requiring empathy, efficiency, and grace under pressure. Funeral Directors are often working behind the scenes and must be comfortable with both the visible and unseen elements of this profession.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support and guide families with empathy and professionalism through all aspects of funeral planning and coordination
  • Arrange and direct funeral services, liaising with families, venues, celebrants, clergy, and other providers
  • Assist in transfers and help with preparation and presentation of the deceased
  • Complete and manage required legal documentation
  • Participate in a regular on-call roster (1 week in 4/5), including nights and weekend work.
About You:
  • Emotionally resilient, calm under pressure, and able to provide exceptional service during difficult times
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • High personal standards in presentation and conduct
  • Excellent time management, organisation, and administration skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a larger, supportive team
  • Technically capable and comfortable with IT systems
  • A full, clean New Zealand driver's licence
  • NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa

This is a rare opportunity to step into a vocation that offers purpose, growth, and genuine community impact.

Applications will be handled in the strictest confidence.

To apply please send your CV to: Ruth Post – ruth@funeral-link.co.nz
