Based in Whakatane, this is your chance to step into a critical role at the heart of Waiotahi’s operations. We’re after someone who can juggle multiple moving parts, keep things humming on-site, and most importantly—make sure our crews have the gear they need, where and when they need it.

About the role:

You’ll be the go-to for planning and allocating heavy machinery, trucks, gear, and labour across our project sites. That means understanding the methods behind construction – so we’re looking for someone with experience in civil construction methodologies and a strong working knowledge of heavy plant and equipment capabilities.

You’ll work closely with our project managers and site supervisors, keeping operations flowing smoothly and making sure jobs don’t get held up. You’ll also keep an eye on where our machinery is, how it's performing, and what’s needed next.

What you’ll Need:
  • Solid experience in civil construction (ideally with boots-on-the-ground experience).
  • A sharp understanding of construction methodologies so you can match the right gear to the right job.
  • Great instincts for plant and equipment – you know the difference between a digger that’ll get the job done and one that’ll just slow things down.
  • Top-tier organisational skills .
  • A cool head under pressure, and the confidence to make the call when the unexpected happens.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills – you’ll be dealing with people at all levels, from site teams to senior management.
  • The ability to read and interpret high-value estimates, understanding how jobs are priced so you can help deliver them efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Solid computer and tech skills, with experience using planning and scheduling tools to keep projects on track.

What kind of person fits in at Waiotahi?

Someone who:
  • Has a can-do attitude and knows how to get stuck in.
  • Values teamwork, ownership, and looking after your workmates.
  • Likes a challenge and doesn’t mind a bit of dirt on their boots.
  • Has a friendly, approachable style – we like people who are easy to work with and who know how to get the best out of a team.
Why Waiotahi?

We’re a long-standing, family-owned civil construction company with a strong reputation for doing great work – and looking after our people while we do it. We’ve got a solid team, and a culture where getting the job done right and getting everyone home safe matter equally.

If this sounds like your kind of role, we’d love to hear from you.
