About the Role The Intellectual Disability Service has an exciting opportunity for an innovative new Mātanga Tapuhi Nurse Practitioner (NP) position or a NP Candidacy to registration for this area of practice.
This advanced nursing role works independently and collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) within the service.The NP role is integral to providing an individual and population-based approach to meet healthcare needs to improve the effectiveness of care delivery.
The role contributes to better health outcomes for people within the intellectual disability service.The role requires a flexible approach, to provide consultation, direct care and treatment enabling episodes of care management in collaboration, as well as support through clinical advice and education.
The advanced practice role is integral to the provision and ongoing development of high-quality service provision.The role will promote and contribute to optimal experience and equitable outcomes for tāngata whaikaha with intellectual disability and mental health needs and their whanau.The NP role, informed by best evidence, provides opportunity for clinical leadership and consultation with the primary care and disability residential care to contribute to meeting identified health priorities and looks to the future population health needs.
The salary for this role is Senior Nursing Grade 6 as Nurse Practitioner (NP) with registration as NP as per PSA-Mental-Health-Public-Nursing-RONZ-CA-31-Mar-2023-31-Dec-2024 or NZNO-HNZ Collective Agreement 2023-2024 or Grade 3 if appointed to NP Candidate role in a NP Candidacy.About the Team/Service/ Location The Intellectual Disability Forensic Service has adult, youth and community services and is part of the Mental Health Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS).
Located on the Ratonga Rua-o-Porirua and Kenepuru Hospital campus in Porirua the Intellectual Disability Inpatient Service has four units: Haumietiketike a regional intellectual disability adult secure forensic unit which has eleven beds.The Cottages, a step down unit of eight adult bedsManawai the National Individualised Service Unit is a national unit with six beds for people with Intellectual disability and/or mental health disorders.
Hikitia Te Wairua is the national intellectual disability secure forensic youth unit which has six beds and is co-located with the Youth Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit and the National Secure Youth Forensic Unit in a Centre of Excellence for Youth Services located at Kenepuru Hospital, Porirua.
We have a Model of Care which incorporates all the features of current best practice within intellectual disability forensic secure services including Positive Behaviour Support, nuanced risk assessment, and psychological formulation.All staff receive training on Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) as this is the basis for our philosophy of care within the service.We also hold two community contracts, a regional mental health contract and a regional disability community contract associated with the inpatient service.The Service has access to business support services including People and Culture, and Finance.
In addition, management and delivery of clinical services across the Service is underpinned by consultation, advice, and support from a range of cultural, consumer, and family advisors, and business, quality and organisational development personnel.
About you We are looking for a recognised advanced practice nurse that has a passion for ongoing learning and development with the ability to share, support and develop the practice of others.The successful applicant will have a proven advanced intellectual disability nursing expertise.
You will also be highly organised with exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills and able to demonstrate a high degree of self-awareness and reflection.
Additional knowledge, attributes and experience ideal for this position include: Experience in intellectual disability and mental health nursing (Minimum 3-4 years).Comprehensive knowledge of the NZ health system, the District environment, systems and processes.Knowledge of the trends and emerging issues for the nursing profession.Has experience in leadership, management and coaching and mentoring approaches.Exceptional attention to detail and time management.Is a strong team player that has excellent communication and works collaboratively with other.Current NZ Driver

You will need Mātanga Tapuhi Nurse Practitioner registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) or if an internationally trained NP then the education equivalence to gain this registration.
Or if applying for Nurse Practitioner Candidacy opportunity.We are looking for a recognised advanced practice nurse that has a passion for ongoing learning and the ability to adapt to work effectively with different learning experiences.You will need:Experience in intellectual disability and mental health nursing (minimum 3 years).
Registered Nurse (RN) and a current practising certificate with no restrictions from the NCNZ.Expert level on the PDRP or Senior Expert pathway with at least three- four years relevant expertise and working at an advanced RN practice level.A Clinical Masters or the postgraduate courses to meet the requirements to undertake the NP postgraduate practicum aligning to the national Nurse Practitioner Training Programme (NPTP).
