Structural Engineer - Step Into a 2IC Role in a Growing Multi-Disciplinary Consultancy

Join a respected and rapidly growing Aotearoa consultancy, delivering innovative structural solutions across the South Island.

Our client offers end-to-end design, project leadership, and build-phase support across commercial, industrial, and bespoke residential developments, as well as civil structures and seismic strengthening.

They're looking for a capable Structural Engineer with substantial experience to reporting directly to the Structural Director; helping lead projects, delegate work, and support technical delivery.

This is an opportunity to step into a broader leadership pathway while still working hands-on across a diverse, quality-driven project portfolio.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead the structural design and documentation of residential, commercial, and light industrial structures.
• Manage projects from initial scope and feasibility through to construction monitoring and signoff (PS4).
• Review and prepare PS1/PS4 documentation and respond to RFIs during construction phase.
• Oversee and coordinate inputs from junior engineers, drafters, and external consultants.
• Contribute to tender documentation and client proposals.

• Act as a key client contact across the South Island.
• Build and maintain long-term relationships with architects, developers, and councils.
• Identify new project opportunities and assist with bid support and scoping.
• Ensure quality, budget, and compliance outcomes are met with practical, solutions-focused advice.

• Provide day-to-day project leadership and informal team coordination.
• Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers in technical delivery and professional growth.
• Act as a trusted 2IC to the Director, taking the lead when needed and driving delivery outcomes.

• Extensive structural engineering experience (NZ preferred)
• CPEng (or working towards) with signoff capability or demonstrable project leadership
• Proven experience in structural design across commercial, residential, and civil projects
• Knowledge of NZ standards and Canterbury-specific construction practices (NZS1170, NZ Building Code, SESOC guidelines)
• Strong communication, coordination, and mentoring skills
• Energy, pragmatism, and initiative; with the ability to take the lead and deliver
