Established in 1996, Tuwharetoa ki Kawerau Hauora provides top-notch health, education, and social services to all residents within the rohe of Tuwharetoa ki Kawerau and the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

The Rangatahi Social Worker will actively engage with rangatahi (youth) to deliver early intervention, education, and prevention services aimed at reducing the uptake of alcohol, methamphetamine, and other drugs. This role focuses on empowering rangatahi through education, support, and navigation to holistic services that integrate cultural practices.
The Rangatahi Social Worker will collaborate closely with the Pou Oranga Whaiora Community and Rangatahi Educator to deliver impactful workshops, outreach activities, and events across the rohe to build resilience and protective factors among rangatahi.

Key Responsibilities of the role include:
- Meet all service delivery requirements of programme
- Manage referrals and complete required assessments
- Develop and deliver educational workshops and outreach activities to promote awareness of the risks associated with alcohol, methamphetamine, and other drugs
- Conduct screening and brief interventions for rangatahi at risk of substance use
- Provide individual and group counselling and support services
- Facilitate group activities to build resilience and protective factors among rangatahi
- Plan, design and collaborate events and activities targeting rangatahi across the rohe
- Foster strong networks with hapu, iwi, rangatahi groups, kura kaupapa Maori, health, and external agencies
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, local employers, agencies and community providers
- Complete reporting requirements efficiently
Nga pukenga me whai | The successful candidate requirements:
- Bachelor of Social Work or related field
- Registration with a relevant professional body (or working towards)
- Experience working with rangatahi preferably in substance abuse or other related fields
- Case management experience
- Experience working with children on a one-to-one basis
- Previous experience working in a diverse organisation in a similar role
- Strong understanding of TKKH and the Eastern Bay of Plenty communities
- Current valid full drivers licence
- Excellent negotiation and advocacy skills
- Strong relationship and network management skills
- Organisational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Appreciation of Te Reo Maori and understanding of tikanga Maori
