About the Role

As a Consultant Radiation Oncologist, you will provide specialist oncology care across a broad spectrum of cancer treatments. You - ll be part of an innovative department with access to advanced technologies including four linear accelerators, a wide-bore CT-simulator, HDR brachytherapy, and ABC deep inspiratory breath hold units.

CRCHS has pioneered stereotactic lung radiation therapy in New Zealand and continues to expand its stereotactic programme for CNS and spinal metastases.

This role involves a balance of clinical service delivery, research, registrar teaching, and academic activity. You will also participate in the after-hours on-call roster and contribute to outreach clinics across the region. The position offers an excellent platform for professional development, including opportunities for leadership and to shape service innovation.

About the Team | Service | Location

CRCHS is a dynamic service employing radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, haematologists, and palliative care physicians, alongside highly skilled radiation therapists, nurses, and clinical researchers. The department has accreditation for radiation oncology training with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) and actively participates in both Australasian and international clinical trials.

We work in close partnership with the University of Otago, Christchurch School of Medicine, providing opportunities to engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR), or an equivalent qualification that enables specialist registration in New Zealand.
  • A collaborative approach and excellent communication skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, research, and registrar teaching.
  • Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand - more information here.
  • (Desirable) Experience in brachytherapy, stereotactic body radiotherapy, and clinical trials.

Registrars due to obtain their RANZCR fellowship by February 2026 are also encouraged to apply.
