About the Role
  • Kōrero mō te tūrangaAs a Senior Operational Policy Analyst, you will lead the delivery of components of the work programme for the Operational Policy
  • Forestry and Resource Management team.This will include the development and implementation of regulations that operationalise the policy decisions and a suite of new operational policies, processes, and procedures to make the new provisions operational for stakeholders.The role is highly collaborative and involves working closely with our policy staff and partner agencies, forestry stakeholders and Treaty partners to design and deliver new guidance material to help people to understand the changes.This role is dynamic and involves a range of different work streams.Key responsibilities of Senior Operational Policy Analysts in the team include:Link high level strategy and legislative intent to operational implementation.Develop regulations and operational policies to implement legislative provisions to strengthen environmental outcomes from forestry, including public consultation.Provide operational policy and implementation advice to senior leaders and Ministers.Work with a wide range of external stakeholders to design and deliver guidance on provisions to strengthen the environmental outcomes of forestry practices.Work with internal stakeholders to design and deliver new regulations, operational policies, and processes to implement new forestry policy for improved environmental outcomes for forestry.
About you
  • MōuTo excel in this role, you will have strong analytical and written communication skills, an ability to develop collaborative working relationships with a range of stakeholders, and a customer-centric work ethic.

An understanding of the primary sector and or New Zealands forestry interests, as well as the role of plantation forestry in addressing climate change would be an advantage.Our ideal candidate will have a strong policy, operational policy, or implementation background, and you will be able to take a lead role in the team.

You will be able to quickly understand and critically analyse technical concepts and communicate to a broad range of audiences.
You will also need to demonstrate a strong ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, colleagues, and senior management.

Previous experience in stakeholder consultation and co-design is desired.

  • Mō tō mātou rōpūThe Operational Policy
  • Forestry and Resource Management team provides regulatory and operational policy advice to improve forestry and resource management through regulation and initiatives.

The approach is to ensure that government intervention on forest land management is aligned, evidence based, intelligence led, and pragmatic.

The team also provides regulatory and operational policy advice as part of a wider programme to help strengthen the integrity of the forestry supply chain.The team is part of the Forestry System directorate.

The directorate covers a wide range of forestry regulatory and operational responsibilities, with a focus on supporting sustainable land management, use of our forestry resources, and New Zealand's climate change responsibilities.
