Senior Civil Engineer / Senior Contracts Engineer - Lead and Deliver Infrastructure Projects

Within an outstanding Consultancy, in their Waikato office team.

An exciting opportunity exists for a skilled and motivated Senior Civil Engineer to join a well-established engineering team. The primary focus is to lead technical design, construction observation, and contract administration to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high quality standards.

About the Role:

This position offers leadership responsibility in managing civil engineering projects from initial design through to successful completion. You will independently lead routine projects, mentor junior staff, manage client relationships, and liaise with contractors and regulatory authorities.

As a key player in the team, you will work across civil design, land development infrastructure, contract administration, and construction supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage end-to-end civil engineering projects including design, contract documentation, tendering, and contract administration.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers and field staff.
  • Provide construction observation and certification of works.
  • Manage coordination with clients, contractors, and local authorities.
  • Guide projects through resource consent and regulatory approvals.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering systems and processes.
  • Maintain adherence to quality assurance, health and safety standards, and contractual obligations.

Experience & Skills:

  • Proven technical competency in civil engineering design and site supervision.
  • Strong understanding of soil testing, land development infrastructure, and related engineering disciplines such as 3-waters, geotechnical, and traffic engineering.
  • Expertise in regulatory standards, contract management, and quality control.
  • Proficient in engineering software and Microsoft Office.
  • Exceptional communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to mentor and lead staff, with excellent client relationship management.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Significant practical experience in a similar role or working towards professional chartered status.
  • Current full drivers license.
