CNC Programmer & Machinist

placeNapier calendar_month
Napier Engineering & Contracting (NEC) is seeking an experienced CNC programmer and machinist. We operate 2 large CNC mills, 1 large CNC lathe, and 1 small CNC lathe. The position being advertised is suitable for a person who can both program & machine.

We are not looking for a dedicated CNC operator or a dedicated CNC programmer. You must be able to do both.

However, if you are a contract CNC programmer who is interested in programming parts remotely from time to time this is also of interest and you are welcome to submit your information.

The role is based out of our workshop in Pandora, Napier. The work with NEC is varied – we manufacture and service our own range of NIVEN branded meat processing equipment, service general equipment for many of the major companies in Hawkes Bay, provide services to the marine sector, and undertake site based project works.

Our specialty is large equipment - we do not deal in the small volume production space.

Check out our website and Facebook page to see what we do:

To apply you will need to have:
  • A POSITIVE, CAN-DO ATTITUDE
  • Self-motivated, efficient, confident, take pride in your work, a hard worker, and continually striving to improve both yourself and others. We work on the principle of respect gets respect.
If you pass the two points above:
  • Our ideal candidate has a manual machining background (i.e. is able to manually machine if required)
  • We use Fusion360 for CNC programming. Ideally you are proficient in this software - if not you must be suitably experienced in similar software that transitioning does not present a problem.
  • You must have a strong knowledge of speeds, feeds, cutting inserts, etc. You will be programming large parts and small changes to variables can have big effects to durations. Please be aware we will ask questions regarding this in any interview.
  • You must have a good workholding knowledge. Our typical work is large one-off and requires the machinist to think carefully about how they intend to workhold the item.
  • You must be confident in reading and interpreting drawings
  • You must be confident in using measuring equipment to verifying parts prior to them leaving the machine (i.e. micrometers, bore gauges, etc)
  • Be able to speak and understand English (to a level you can understand instructions and converse with other staff without misunderstanding)
  • Overtime rates (1.5x) paid after 44 hours. Regular overtime is available.

Napier Engineering is a drug-free workplace. A pre-employment drug test will be required for successful candidates with ongoing random drug testing.

We like to work with our staff - if you think this job matches your skillset but have commitments that require flexible work hours (e.g. need to pickup / drop off kids), let us know. If you're currently working in a big city and looking to relocate to somewhere a little more laid back, less travel time to and from work, etc - let us know.

We want to work with you to ensure we get the right people.
