About the Role
Are you ready to kickstart a rewarding career in the quarrying industry? Graymont’s Oparure Quarry is seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Graduate Quarry Operator to join our team. This is an entry-level role with a clear development pathway toward supervisory and management positions.
You’ll gain hands-on experience across all aspects of quarry operations, including drilling, blasting, crushing, screening, and mobile plant operation. With structured training and mentoring, you’ll build the technical and leadership skills needed to grow into a future leader in the industry.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with daily quarry operations including rock recovery, crushing, and screening
- Operate and maintain mobile plant and equipment (e.g., loaders, dump trucks, excavators)
- Conduct pre-start checks and basic maintenance on machinery
- Support drilling and blasting activities under supervision
- Complete safety inspections and contribute to hazard identification
- Record production data and assist with quality control sampling
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures
- Participate in training programs and competency assessments
- A recent graduate or school leaver with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Interest in quarrying, mining, civil construction, or heavy industry
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A commitment to safety and continuous improvement
- Full NZ driver’s licence (Class 1); Class 2 or WTR endorsements a plus
