Position: Production Technician and Lead
Location: 240 Jellicoe St. Te Puke, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand
Required Minimum Hours: 40 hours/week
Salary range: NZ$50,000- 58,000 per annum

JOB PURPOSE:
The Production Technician and Lead is responsible for overseeing and executing production processes to ensure the efficient and high-quality manufacturing of pet food products. This involves maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and operating state-of-the-art machines and equipment in the Extrusion, Packing, Meats, Treats & RDF, and Raw Material Handling/Batching lines.

Additionally, the Production Technician and Lead supervises a team of production technicians and operators, ensures adherence to safety and quality standards, and drives process improvements.

Job Responsibilities: Production Operations
  • Oversee and execute production processes to meet production targets and quality standards.
  • Monitor production output and adjust workflows as needed to optimize efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular quality control checks to maintain product quality.
  • Coordinate with production team members to optimize efficiency and minimize downtime.
Equipment Maintenance and Operation
  • Perform or audit routine maintenance or Basic Equipment Care (BEC) and repairs on production equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate with the maintenance team for resolution.
  • Operate machinery and equipment according to standard operating procedures.
Team Leadership and Development
  • Supervise and mentor production technicians and operators to ensure adherence to standards and procedures.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment to promote teamwork and productivity.
  • Assist in conducting performance reviews and management.
Quality Control and Assurance
  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure product consistency and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Conduct inspections and tests on raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to verify quality specifications are met.
  • Document quality control findings and initiate corrective actions as needed.
Health and Safety Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Train team members on safe work practices and emergency procedures.
  • Encourage a safety-first culture among all production staff.
Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and streamline workflows.
Professional Development
  • Facilitate ongoing learning and development opportunities for new and existing team members.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements relevant to pet food manufacturing.
  • Encourage continuous improvement and innovation in production processes.
Ad hoc
  • Perform other tasks that may be assigned either individually or as part of a committee or team.
  • From time to time, you may be directed to realign your efforts with the changing needs of the business.

Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree in food science, engineering or a related field is preferred.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in food manufacturing, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
Experience in pet food production is advantageous.
Strong experience with extrusion technology.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate effectively with all members of the team from various backgrounds.
Excellent organizational skills and profound ability to schedule multiple activities and resources for efficient and effective utilization.

Strong ability to motivate, lead and give directions to team members.

Required Training & Certifications: Equipment-specific training, Basic Manufacturing certification preferred but not required.

Forklift License, First Aid Certification, Food Safety Certification (e.g., HACCP) preferred but not required.
