Stonemason

We are looking for a full-time, permanent stonemason to join our Christchurch team in the Canterbury region, offering a minimum of 30 hours per week and a competitive pay rate of NZ$33–36 per hour with guaranteed hours and allowances.

• Undertake high-quality stone masonry work including cutting, shaping, dressing, laying and pointing stone blocks, natural stone veneers, precast stone elements, restoration of heritage masonry and new builds.
• Read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
• Undertake hand-carved stonework including mouldings, tracery, lettering, and sculptural elements
• Repair, replace, and dress stone to match original profiles and materials
• Work confidently with lime mortars, including mixing, application, and finishing
• Work with scaffolding, lifts, other trades and labourers to ensure safe and efficient site operations.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations on site.
• Maintain tools, equipment and material supplies.
• Work autonomously and as part of a team to meet project deadlines and quality standards.

• At least 5 years of proven full-time stone masonry experience in commercial restoration or residential construction.
• Demonstrated ability in working with natural stone, stone veneers or similar materials.
• Ability to interpret drawings, measure and set out work accurately.
• NZ driver’s licence.
• Strong commitment to quality craftsmanship, reliability, punctuality.
• Physically fit and able to work safely at heights, outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
• Good communication skills in English to work on New Zealand construction sites (site team instructions, safety briefings).
• Strong competence in stone carving and banker masonry.
• Sound knowledge of lime-based mortars, traditional building techniques, and stone behaviour.

• Qualification in construction, stone masonry or related trade certificate.
• Experience in heritage or restoration stonework.
• Forklift or plant certification.
