About the role

Taranaki ICU is moving into a brand new dedicated 18 bed intensive care unit in May 2026. The ICU is transitioning from being an open unit with no immediately available RMO to a 24/7 RMO in residence on the ICU model.

Taranaki is currently registered for foundation training with the college of intensive care medicine (CICM) and as part of this transition will apply to be a general training unit registered for 6 months of training (G6). Applicants who are registered for training in anaesthesia, emergency medicine, medicine, rural hospital medicine and surgery are also welcome to apply.

As an ICU Registrar, youll be immersed in highacuity, handson medicine every day:

  • Join daily ICU ward rounds with SMOs
  • Admit and discharge critically ill patients
  • Review deteriorating patients across ICU/HDU/CCU, ED, and inpatient wards
  • Attend MET calls and collaborate with the PatientatRisk (PAR) team
  • Support acute care across Delivery Suite, Theatre, Radiology, and ED Resus

Your primary duties will be in ICU, with occasional responsibilities in:

Delivery Suite

Outpatient/Day Surgery Suite

Radiology (Xray CT)

ED Resuscitation

Theatre
