3x Full time, Permanent opportunities based in Te Tari Matua/National Office in Pōneke WellingtonWe are recruiting for three passionate Policy Advisors to join two policy teams on a full time, permanent basis.Te Pae Ohanga team is responsible for leading, monitoring and reporting on Economic Development policy matters.Ideally, the preferred candidate will bring experience in economic development policy and an understanding of public sector operations.Te Pou Oranga team is responsible for Māori related policy work in housing, education, training and employment.Ideally, the preferred candidate will bring experience in social policy and an understanding of public sector operations.Our Policy puni leads public policy advice on issues of specific importance to Māori.

It also provides interdepartmental policy advice on matters most likely to impact directly on wellbeing and development outcomes for whānau, hapū, iwi and Māori. Working together with the other puni, Policy leads, influences, contributes to and supports policy thinking at multiple levels – from system-level strategic policy and frameworks, to specific, regionally located policy initiatives and proposals.The Policy puni is implementing new, agile ways of working to ensure we can adapt swiftly as priorities change.

This includes a stronger focus on programme management, collective decisions about resourcing across teams, and the ability to form temporary cross-team or puni project teams, when work doesn’t fit within existing teams. This flexibility allows us to deliver priority work, ensuring that we can respond to unique or emerging challenges as they arise.Te whai wāhitanga | The opportunityPolicy Advisors are responsible for providing high quality analysis, research and advice that contributes the 'Thriving Whānau'.

Work collaboratively with the peers in Te Puni Kōkiri and with other government departments in developing policy that will contribute to Thriving Whānau Identify and manage relationships with key stakeholders Managing specific projects and initiatives within the Policy puni Represent Te Puni Kōkiri policy position to a wide range of audiences.The likely appointment range for this role is between $76,213 and $84,680 per annum.
The full salary range of the grade is $76,213 and $101,616 (120%)Mōu | About you We’re looking for someone who enjoys thinking critically, analysing information, and helping create practical policy solutions. You’ll be building your experience in providing clear, well‑reasoned, evidence‑based advice that meets the needs of different audiences.
You’ll bring an understanding of how government works, how decisions are made, and the role Te Puni Kōkiri plays in shaping policy.
