Maintenance Engineer – Keep Christchurch’s recycling plant running smoothly
The Role
At EcoCentral as Maintenance Engineer at our EcoSort plant, you’ll be responsible for keeping critical machinery operating safely and reliably. This includes preventive and reactive maintenance across conveyors and other equipment, supported by a structured work order system.Reporting to the EcoSort Manager and working closely with the EcoSort Supervisor, you’ll also coordinate with contractors and provide technical input on site activities. This is a hands-on, standalone role where your skills will directly impact plant performance.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on plant machinery
- Diagnose faults and coordinate with external providers for larger repairs
- Manage work orders and inspections through the MEX system
- Maintain workshop standards, tooling, and PPE compliance
- Operate or gain MEWP certification for elevated work on conveyors
- Collaborate with supervisors, electricians, and contractors to ensure uptime
- Trade or Level 6 qualification in Mechanical/Maintenance Engineering
- Minimum five years’ practical plant or processing experience
- Strong mechanical capability, with welding and fault-finding skills
- Calm, methodical problem solver with a safety-first approach
- Clear communicator, able to work effectively with a diverse team
- Willingness to obtain MEWP certification if not already held
- Play a hands-on role in Canterbury’s recycling and sustainability efforts
- Work with well-equipped workshop facilities and quality PPE
