The Role
You will be working alongside a person who thrives on routine, enjoys long walks in the park, music (especially guitar), and movies, and is building stronger connections with the community. This role requires someone with experience in trauma-informed practice and a strong understanding of how past experiences can shape current behaviours.
The person you will be supporting experiences high levels of anxiety and can display challenging behaviours, particularly when encountering pain, changes to routine, or barriers to resolving problems. You’ll need to be confident in applying positive behaviour support strategies, crisis management skills, and calm, safety-focused interventions while maintaining your own wellbeing and self-awareness.
This is a role where your ability to do with, not for, will be key—empowering the person to take part in their life and community, while respecting their independence and culture.

As a highly self-aware and adaptable individual, you must be able to manage your own well-being, recognise early signs of anxiety, and confidently guide someone toward positive coping strategies. You work well independently and as part of a team, and you’re committed to building strong, respectful relationships within the community.
In addition to this, you must:
- Be willing to undergo Criminal and Oranga Tamariki checks
- Have a FULL New Zealand driver’s licence
- Have the legal right to work in New Zealand
