About us and the role:
If you’re a driver looking for a new and unique challenge, come and join the Picton freight team at Bluebridge Cook Strait Ferries and play a critical role in ensuring that New Zealand’s road freight moves across Cook Strait!
You’ll be responsible for helping to unload and load drop units on and off Bluebridge’s ferries, which means you can swap long hours on the road away from friends and family with a job close to home that still utilises all your driving skills and experience.
The position currently available is a permanent between Wednesday and Sunday possibly day or night shifts. Therefore you must be available to work weekends and public holidays.
Helping you understand the port environment is all part of the on-the-job training offered and we’ll also provide support getting your Dangerous Goods (DG) and F endorsements, if required.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has an excellent work ethic and attendance record
- Is punctual, reliable, honest and positive
- Works in a safe and efficient manner and will comply with company policies and procedures
- Strong customer service
- Work harmoniously in a team environment
- Excellent communication skills- both verbal and written
- Has had experience backing truck and trailers

Of course, there are a few technical requirements which are important to have:
- A class 5 license and a clean and safe driving record.
- Experience driving B trains, Semis and Truck and Trailers *You must satisfy a pre-employment medical, drug test and a Ministry of Justice check to be considered for this position.
- Excellent reversing skills
- OSH Forklift certification or F endorsement and current W T R endorsements would be useful but are not critical.
